A moving box inventory you can scan on arrival
"Kitchen, misc" written in marker helps nobody at 9 pm in a new house. Go Stash It gives every moving box a QR label and a real contents list, so you can find the coffee maker on night one and unpack one room at a time.
Why numbered boxes are not enough
Numbering boxes and keeping a list on paper is the classic advice, and it fails the same way every time: the list is in a box, the numbers are on the side facing the wall, and half the boxes were packed by someone who did not update the list. Movers stack boxes by size, not by room, so the label you can see is rarely the one you need.
A moving box inventory has to travel with you, update itself as you pack, and answer two questions from across the room: what is in this box, and where does it go?
Pack with a scanner in your pocket
- Start a Move session. Go Stash It has a dedicated moving mode. Create a session for the move and add the stops involved, such as the old house, a storage unit and the new house.
- Print numbered QR labels in advance. Print a sheet of labels before you pack. Each label is a permanent code; stick one on a box and it becomes a Container the moment you scan it.
- Log items as they go in. Scan the label, snap a photo, type what is inside. Quantity fields keep track of "12 mugs" without twelve entries.
- Assign the destination. Set the room the box belongs in at the new place, so helpers can put it there without asking.
Everyone can help. Household sharing lets your partner and friends log boxes into the same session from their own phones. Anyone can scan a label with a camera to see the contents, even without an account.

As boxes come off the truck, scan each one. The app shows the contents and the destination room, and the Move session tracks what has been loaded and unloaded at each stop, so nothing is left behind at the old house or the storage unit. Boxes that have not been assigned a place yet show up in an "unplaced" list, which makes the last hour of a move far less frantic.
The first week in the new house
You will not unpack everything at once. Search "sheets", "phone chargers" or "school forms" and open exactly the right box. The rest can wait in the garage, fully searchable, for as long as it takes.
After the move, nothing to re-enter
The boxes you keep become permanent storage Containers in your new Place, with their contents already logged. Empty ones are archived. Your moving inventory turns into your garage storage tracker and a ready-made home inventory for insurance, without a second round of data entry.
